On your Thursday show (2016 Jan 14), after one of the tracks, you guys started talking about the apocalyptic theme and (post?) end of times. You mentioned an essay by a (now deceased) notable Catholic author that I wanted to read up on, but it seems I may not have written it down. What’s the name of the essay/author? TIA.

I remembered to ask Tom about this today, and he answered, and I forget now what he said. But I’ll find out and answer here soon, I promise.

  1. Thomas Merton, The Time of the End is the Time of No Room, from the collection Raids on the Unspeakable. It’s really a Christmas essay, but much of it is also about what Merton saw as a yearning for apocalypse. Pure Catholic mysticism, but very readable even for those of us with nary a religious bone in our bodies. You can read it on here if you can handle how awful this page is: http://maninthemaze.com/theadventseries/day16.html
